Ibn Hazm lived in Al-Andalus in the tenth and eleventh centuries AD. He is accepted by both Islamic and Western scholars as one of the outstanding intellect not only of his own age but also of all ages. The extent of his formative influence on the great change in European thought that took place in the late Middle Ages is now beginning to be fully appreciated.
